Opuntia ficus indica is an arborescent succulent plant, native to Mexico, from which it spread throughout Central America since Mayan times. Today it is naturalized in all the temperate zones of the American continent, in Africa, Asia, Oceania and in the warm regions of the Mediterranean basin, where it grows wild on arid and sunny slopes.

The cultivation of prickly pears allows us to obtain an attractive edible product, which at the same time guarantees the improvement of biodiversity and the fight against desertification.
